Lee DiBella recently lost her Great Dane, Brian, and her goodbyes to her good boy have since become commonplace. The incredibly moving obituary she wrote, she tells the story of a shelter dog who lived life to the fullest with enthusiasm and brought love into the home they shared. Regardless of the pain she feels, she tries to give her friend a great goodbye, not only with tears, but with laughter and a sense of the personality Brian already has in life. .
Brian passed away peacefully, next to his mother of nearly 11 years, Wednesday, July 12, under the care of Stone Veterinary Hospital staff.
Brian was adopted by his mother, Lee Dibella, on December 19, 2006, and quickly became a dog legend. Brian came to our house with the ability not only to sit, but to “put his feet up”. Able to destroy any crate, gate, doorknob, or trim and mold his way, Brian quickly begins to build loving relationships with everyone who comes into contact with him, whether it’s the new vet, the animal controller or whoever he finds. A lover of couches and blankets, Brian has many interests. Some of Brian’s favorite activities include barking at things that aren’t there, cuddling next to you, taking over mom’s bed, licking her butt, acting like a jazz tune when it’s time to feed, and trying to find Who exactly is “good boy. In his spare time, Brian daydreams wildly, stomping his feet, perhaps chasing vile cats or squirrels that dare enter his dreams.
The fastest way to Brian’s heart is a scratch on his back and a rub on his belly. Brian will miss many people, but none more than his mother. She loved him with all her heart, and although the pain she felt without him was great, it was in no way comparable to the fact that she had never had him in her life.
Besides his mother, Brian leaves behind an older sister, Dr. Frigo Delilah, and grandmother, Jeannette DiBella; given by his grandfather, David; his uncle, Michael and family; god mother, Jennifer DeWitt; and many great friends over the years. Per the wishes of Brian’s family, give your dog an extra hug, belly rub, and treatment.
Brian DiBella is a very lucky dog and his life is clearly taken care of by someone who loves him very much. Remember to show love for your dog in honor of Brian, a very good dog.
