An Oregon woman is facing assault charges for punching her boyfriend not once but twice after he left her dog outside in the rain. While it’s likely the details of this situation have yet to be announced, here’s what we know so far.

Since this report was published, there have been hundreds of comments about Melissa’s reaction and what dog owners would do in her place. When scrolling through the comments on the Coo County Sheriff’s Facebook and Twitter accounts, you can see a flurry of comments with conflicting opinions on the subject.

Some of these comments include:

“Good for her, I think I’ll get rid of the boyfriend.”

“People need to protect their kids the way this woman protects her dog. With that said, I think it’s crazy that some of you think the man should go to jail for heinous crimes. It was raining, I’m sure the dog was fine, but it doesn’t say how long the dog was left out or cold. I really have to admire how much this woman loves her dog.”

“Make sure if it’s the other way around and she lets his dog out, and gets punched for it will cause an uproar!!! I’m so glad she loves her dog but double standards come to mind again!! “

“I’d punch myself in the face if I left my pet dog out in the rain.”

“I mean… I accidentally left my dogs outside when it started to rain but I always go get them when it starts. But if someone does it on purpose and he’s my S/O, he won’t be my S/O anymore but I won’t hit him for it. Today, too many people are willing to commit domestic violence. “

“She looks very pleased with herself. Acclaim! “

“Where can I donate to her defense fund?????”

It’s safe to say that dog lovers around the country are divided on how they feel about Melissa’s actions. So what do you think?
