A single winning ticket has been sold in California for one of the largest Powerball jackpots ever, the lottery team said Wednesday night. With an estimated $1.08 billion, it is the sixth-largest jackpot in US history.

The winning numbers are: 7, 10, 11, 13, 24 and another 24 for the Powerball.

The winning ticket was sold at Las Palmitas Mini Market in Los Angeles, according to the California Lottery. No one has won Powerball or its competitive lottery, Mega Millions, since mid-April, causing both jackpots to skyrocket to some of the highest amounts in recent weeks. Next Mega Millions drawing, for $720 million, is Friday.

Giant jackpots have become increasingly popular in multi-state Mega Millions and Powerball draws, due to game changes over the years and higher ticket prices.

Between the two lotteries, seven US jackpots have hit $1 billion or more since 2016, including four since the start of 2022.

Here are the 10 biggest US jackpots ever.

The largest lottery jackpot to date, a Powerball lottery, was won on November 7, 2022. Tickets were sold at Joe’s Service Center in Altadena, Calif., just north of Pasadena.

Lottery officials say the ticket holder is The State’s First Lottery Billionaire. On February 14, California Lottery officials announced that the winner’s name is Edwin Castro but did not disclose further biographical information at his request.

The second biggest jackpot, also the Powerball, is divided into three parts. Winning numbers drawn on January 13, 2016, matched tickets purchased in California, Florida and Tennessee.

“I think we can all live on $528 million, don’t you think?” Russ Lopez, a spokesman for the California Lottery, said at the time.

The biggest Mega Millions jackpot is the third-biggest jackpot overall, with the winning ticket drawn on October 23, 2018 in South Carolina.

It took a while for the award to be announced. March next year, an anonymous winner proceeded through an attorney, choosing to receive a lump sum cash of $877,784,124 instead of receiving payments over 30 years.

Manuel Franco of Wisconsin won a $768.4 million prize in the March 27, 2019 Powerball draw, which was enough for Mr. Quit work within two days after winning.

Wisconsin has no laws protecting the identities of lottery winners, which means Franco is forced to go public.

A 53-year-old Massachusetts healthcare worker became a millionaire when he won the Powerball on August 23, 2017. The winner, Mavis Wanczyk, chose to receive a one-time payment of $480.5 million.
