After completion in 2014, Wiesmann has been revived by UK-based investor Rohan Berry. The firm’s first production vehicle under new ownership was an eye-catching, all-electric convertible called the Project Thunderball.
Whereas previous Wiesmann products have had engines from BMW’s M division, the Project Thunderball has two electric motors on the rear axle that make up the combination. 500kW and 1100Nm.
The company says the lightweight electric roadster will be capable of completing 0-100km/h in 2.9 seconds and 200km/h in 8.9 seconds.
Equipped with a standard 82kWh battery pack, Wiesmann is aiming for a WLTP driving range of over 500 km. The 800V EV architecture supports 300kW DC fast charging, as well as 22kW AC charging.
The car uses an aluminum space frame, and the bodywork is made from a mixture of carbon fiber, steel and aluminum. All-curb weight is just 1775kg, while the front-to-rear 48/52 weight distribution is said to aid handling and engagement.
The Project Thunderball rides on 21-inch alloy wheels shod with 265/30 Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tires up front and 305/25 rubber at the rear.
The regenerative braking system has five rider selector modes and is enhanced by 380mm disc brakes at both ends, with the front wheels using a six-piston caliper and the rear using a four-piston caliper design. .
There’s also an adjustable suspension setup and adjustable anti-roll bars.
Measuring 4440mm long, 2210mm wide including the rearview mirror, 1285mm high and 2595mm wheelbase, the convertible boasts a 180L front trunk and 125L boot with the roof up.
Weismann claims the frunk can handle two “carry” golf bags. The interior, naturally, features a combination of leather, metal, wood grain and carbon fiber.
The Thunderball project will be handcrafted at Wiesmann’s factory in Dülmen, Germany.
Pricing for Project Thunderball is said to start at €300,000 ($447,000) and the car is available to order right now.
