Why are tripods sometimes appreciated for landscape photography?

Perhaps no accessory is more closely related to landscape photography than a tripod, and for good reason. That said, some photographers insist on using them for every shot, no matter the circumstances. Could that really be a hindrance? This great video dives into the use of tripods in landscape photography and why sometimes, it’s better to just hold your camera.

Coming to you from James Popsys, this interesting video discusses the use of tripods in landscape photography and why sometimes, it is better not to use them at all. I generally agree with Popsys. This is not to say that a tripod isn’t a worthwhile tool; they are extremely useful and necessary for many different scenes. However, if you’re taking photos with plenty of available light and not doing something special like long exposures, do you really need one? And if you don’t, shouldn’t you be freeing yourself from the logistical burden of carrying it around, moving it, and adjusting it for each new image? Arguably, you can take more (and possibly better photos) if you just hold your camera. Watch the video above for the full rundown from Popsys.
