WhatsApp’s privacy is set to change, but disappearing messages have a big problem

WhatsApp is rolling out a new update to the disappearing messages feature to bring more privacy. But it has a problem! Know what.

A few months ago, WhatsApp introduced the disappearing messages feature. These chats disappear after 24 hours, 7 days or 90 days as specified by the sender. Not only the message, but also make the media sent with the message also disappear at the set time. But WhatsApp explicitly mentions that downloaded media will also be automatically saved to your photos. So if disappearing messages is enabled, the media sent in the chat will eventually disappear but it will still be saved on the phone if auto-download is enabled. Now, WhatsApp is set to change this with a new update for its disappearing messages.

According to a recent report by WabetaInfo, social networking app WhatsApp owned by Meta is developing a new feature that will not allow users to automatically save shared media files in disappearing messages. In addition, it will allow you to prevent some notifications from disappearing from expiration in a future app update. Until now, WhatsApp users could automatically save photos or videos shared in chats that disappeared in their gallery. According to the report, the new feature will be rolling out to both Android and Apple iPhone users.

Wabetainfo shared a screenshot showing that WhatsApp is now automatically turning off the “media visibility” option to disappear chats on WhatsApp for Android, which previously allowed people to view images in Photo library. For iPhone users, the “Save to Photo Library” option is automatically disabled when the chats disappear. That means images, videos, and GIFs are never automatically saved to the photo library.

But this new WhatsApp has one MAIN problem

Despite WhatsApp’s efforts to improve privacy while using disappearing messages and keeping media more private, there are ways to allow users to save media in their library. . Therefore, the whole problem may not be solved by rolling out this WhatsApp update. A WhatsApp blog says that “use disappearing messages with trusted individuals, as someone can forward or take a screenshot of the disappearing message and save it before it disappears.”
