What’s wrong with Matthew Stafford? Rams QB Plays With Multiple Injuries In ‘Monday Night Football’

Matthew Stafford has not been listed on the Rams’ official injury report since Week 9, but the Los Angeles midfielder is certain to be injured.

Stafford has faced a variety of nagging injuries during his first season with the Rams. So far, there have been no injuries that have kept him out of action, but they have affected him, particularly a back injury that occurred around mid-season.

These injuries have hindered Stafford and brought the Rams down recently. Since the last time on the injury list, the Rams have lost 1-3 and went on a three-game losing streak, the longest in coach Sean McVay’s career. Their only victory came with the Jaguar.

Will Stafford be in full health this season? And what exactly is bothering him? Here’s the latest injury news around Stafford and his pre- and post-traumatic dissections.

Matthew Stafford injury update

Stafford has faced numerous injuries during the season. Before the Rams’ Week 12 game against the Packers, ESPN’s Dianna Russini reports that Stafford has dealt with “pain” in the following areas:

  • His throwing shoulder
  • His elbow
  • His ankle
  • His back

Russini describes Stafford’s back pain as “chronic”, which makes sense. Back injuries tend to be long-lasting, so if Stafford is dealing with an issue there, it could be a season-long problem.

It’s worth noting that Stafford has dealt with issues back in the day. He missed half of the 2019 NFL season while dealing with several broken bones in his back.

Stafford also faced a finger injury during the 2021 NFL season, when he assessed his hand in the Rams’ 26-17 win over the Seahawks in Week 5. That proved not to be the case. big – he hasn’t missed practice as a result of it since it happened on “Thursday Night Football” – but it couldn’t help as part of the laundry list of injuries he he has coped this year.

Despite these illnesses, Stafford appeared on the injury report only once in Week 9 due to a back injury. He worked out at full capacity in every other training session, so the smaller, nagging injuries Russini described didn’t seem like a big deal to Stafford.

That said, despite his healthy appearance, it’s clear that Stafford has declined since first addressing that back issue.

Matthew Stafford Stats: Before and After Injury

Stafford has had an exciting start to the year and looks like a legitimate MVP candidate for the Rams. However, since he docks reporting injury with “chronic” back pain in Week 9, he’s regressed and so has the Rams.

Here’s a breakdown of Stafford’s pre-match stats since his sole appearance on the injury report this season.

Stage = Stage Game Record Complete % Horizontal pass Overcoming TDs INTs
Before week 9 8 7-1 68.9 309.6 2.8 0.5
Week 9 and up 4 1-3 63 283.5 2 1.3

Stafford’s backing may not be entirely related to his injury. In the end, the Rams lost Robert Woods and added Odell Beckham Jr. But it still cannot be ruled out.

And so, his health will be called into question if he continues to struggle against the Cardinals in “Monday Night Football.”
