What’s the worst gas-saving advice you’ve ever heard?
Gasoline prices are horribly high right now. That’s what we used to do included almost daily in the past few months. In fact, the average gas price of a typical gallon of gas hit a new record high today: $4.60 per gallon. Obviously, this is going to make everyone take all the action to save some gas, so it got us thinking. What’s the worst gas-saving advice you’ve ever heard?
I’m not talking about keeping your revs low and not using your AC. All of that makes sense and you can see real results when you do it. I’m talking about putting soda in your fuel tank and using OBD2 port “gas saver” connectors. None of this really works, and there are tons of other scams… I mean bad advice… out there.
So we want to know what you’ve heard or been told. It could have come from an internet forum, someone who booms at a car show on long hikes-go up jorts and see-through socks or even your good friend who really isn’t very smart. It’s fine, he means well… just don’t lower the back door of your truck. It can be useful but it can be illegal depending on where you live, and you’ll end up looking like a big stupid dog. That’s what you want? To look like a doofus? I do not think so.
A lot of these “tricks” appear in clickbait internetwork advertisements, so you must be vigilant not to listen to them. You can even use the answers below as a guide on what not to do. If you’ve ever thought about going crazy with gas mileage, just refer to this question’s answer as a handy guide to what to avoid.
It’s brutal out there right now. While some of these ideas seem like good ideas, I promise you they are not.
