Request a credit score for Blue Cash Preferred
No specific credit score is required to be approved for Prioritize green cash. Like other issuers, Amex considers a number of factors to make approval decisions. So there is a certain credit score will not automatically mean you will be approved for a card.
Amex recommends you have “good to excellent” credit to apply for a card, which means you should aim for at least a score of 670. However, we recommend a credit score above 700 to increase your chances Assembly is approved.

How to check your credit score
American Express actually offers a way for you to check your credit score (even if you’re not a cardholder yet) called My Credit Guide, allowing you to access your Vantage 3.0 points. When you create an account or log in, you’ll be able to view your credit score on an easy-to-read scale. You can also see how your credit score stacks up, a summary of which Amex cards you’re most likely to be approved for, a credit summary that gives you status updates on your accounts Late payments, open accounts, your current balance and other factors contribute to your credit score.

What other factors affect credit card approval?
While your credit score is an important factor issuers consider when determining whether you’ll be approved for a credit card, it’s not the only thing they consider. Credit card issuers do not share a complete list of factors or how each factor affects approval, but below are some general things that credit card issuers will consider:
- Payment history. This also affects your credit score, but issuers will also take your credit history into account separately when looking at an application. Pay your bills on time and fullness is a signal to credit card issuers that you are a low-risk lender, which increases your chances of approval.
- Income. You may be required to list your annual income on the application. Creditors use this to help ensure that you make enough money to pay your credit card bills each month. It also plays a role in determining your credit limit.
- Number of open accounts Many issuers limit the number of credit cards you can open or at least limit the total credit they will extend to you across accounts. Make sure you know application restrictions of each credit card issuer before you apply for the card.
This is certainly not an exhaustive list of factors – some issuers will take into account existing customer relationships and more when considering whether to approve you for a new card. Remember that requirements issuers are often looking to change depending on the economy and other external factors you may not have control over.
Bottom line
If you’ve determined that the Amex Blue Cash Preferred card would be a good addition to your wallet and you have a good to excellent credit score, you may be more likely to be approved. This doesn’t mean you necessarily need a 670 credit score to be approved, nor does it guarantee that those with scores above 700 will qualify for the card.
However, it does give you a clearer picture of your approval rates based on your credit score and current history. If you fall at the low end of this range, there are a few things you can do to help improve your score before applying.
