West Ham player’s family attacked by AZ Alkmaar fans



Family and friends of West Ham United players, celebrating their success in Thursday’s Europa Conference League semi-final in the Netherlands, were attacked by AZ Alkmaar fans when the final whistle blows.

AZ supporters broke through the fence and attacked the West Ham team sitting in a reserved area at AZ Stadium. A scuffle ensued in which the West Ham players, including the captain ricetried to intervene.

Police and management were quickly on the scene to prevent further confrontation and quiet was restored 10 minutes later.

West Ham manager David Moyes told BT Sport: “We need to wait for things to settle down to see what that is but the biggest problem is the area where the players have their family, friends and loved ones in. there.

“That’s where the problem arose and a lot of the players were angry because they couldn’t tell if they were okay. But look, I don’t know. We’ll have to wait and ask the officials what’s up. actually happened.”

Last week, a similar incident occurred in London when AZ supporters, including the family of coach Pascal Jansen, were attacked by West Ham fans after they celebrated a goal scored by the club. Dutch team scored in the first half of the first leg.

West Ham came back to win last Thursday’s game 2-1 and then scored the final decisive goal in the semi-final second leg. Overall win 3-1.
