For the first designated event in two weeks, the PGA Tour welcomes some of the biggest names in the game to Quail Hollow Club for the Wells Fargo 2023 title. While Jon Rahm and Scottie Scheffler, two tennis players. world’s top tennis player, will not be taking part in the trip to Charlotte, North Carolina, the world number 3 will reappear after a long absence.
Rory McIlroy will play his first game since missing out on a place at the 2023 Masters. After withdrawing from the 2023 RBC Heritage, the four-time major champion has set his sights on a destination he is all too familiar with. A three-time Quail Hollow Club winner, McIlroy has fond memories outside of Queen City.
It was here that McIlroy took his first win in PGA Tour history with a sizzling final in round 62. The Northern Irishman was not alone with his comfort around Quail Hollow; Rickie Fowler and Max Homa both took their first win (against McIlroy, nothing more) at the venue, while the revived Jason Day’s last win was at this tournament in 2018.
Justin Thomas lifted a trophy on this very field, albeit a trophy of a larger caliber with his 2017 PGA Championship win, while his good friend Jordan Spieth, just started for the third time at Quail Hollow. Patrick Cantlay, Xander Schauffele, Cameron Young, Collin Morikawa, Viktor Hovland and Sungjae Im all arrived at the Wells Fargo Championship with the goal of claiming their first win of the season.
