Whether it’s because of an injury, a match, or a decline in usage, there are plenty of reasons why a player might be struggling during a given week. It is important to try to identify these busts in advance. Before Week 12, we worry about big-name players like Aaron Rodgers and Courtland Sutton and streamer specials like Teddy Bridgewater and Rhamondre Stevenson. Week 12 Bust Illusion: Running Back
Myles Gaskin, Dolphins vs. Panthers (Jackson Sparks). Gaskin has shined in positions and could make for a serviceable fantasy day if he’s forced targets, but fringe RB2 should generally be avoided against a Carolina defense that ranks as top unit against fantasy RB. Ezekiel Elliot and Dalvin Cook were the only two RBs to produce a great day against the Panthers, so the game simply wasn’t there for Gaskin.
Alex Collins, Seahawks @ Washington (Vinnie Iyer). He should just “Riverdance” return to retirement instead of doing nothing with the volume. Hopefully Seattle will remix this backyard with more DeeJay Dallas.
Rhamondre Stevenson, Patriots vs. Titans (Matt Lutovsky). Stevenson looks good as the Patriots’ backyard co-leader, but as long as Damien Harris is active, Stevenson is just a low-ceiling versatile option. Against a Tennessee defense that allows sixth-least fantasy points per game (FPPG) to RB, he might not even be.

Week 12 Football Semi-Final Illusion: The Defenders
Teddy Bridgewater, Broncos vs. Chargers (Sparks). Bridgewater is a popular streamer in favorable matches and a good candidate for the bench when the game is tough. Before the Chargers’ defense collapsed in the fourth quarter against the Steelers, it ranked as the sixth-strongest defense against fictional QBs. That said, Bridgewater’s floors are low and his ceilings have limits.
Tua Tagovailoa, Dolphins vs. Panthers (Iyer). Al Pacino’s favorite NFL first name wouldn’t say hello like an imaginary friend during a bad game against the Carolina defense. Tu-AH will be Tony Montana rather than Joe Montana in Miami.
Aaron Rodgers, Packers vs. Rams (Lutovsky). As long as Rodgers is on the field, he will be a threat to the big day. However, with a painful toe injury he is dealing with against the Rams’ strong pass defense, he is more of a risk than usual this week.

Week 12 Fantasy Football League: Wide Receiver
Odell Beckham Jr., Rams @ Packers (Sparks). Beckham’s name value will always make people want to start him, but we didn’t like his chance to make this. He’ll be more involved after the Rams say goodbye a week, but this is Cooper Kupp’s offense and the Packers are the top 10 unit against the fictional WR. Yes, Justin Jefferson dismantled them, but this isn’t 2016 anymore, so you can’t count on OBJ.
Rashod Bateman, Ravens and Browns (Iyer). He’s our third favorite Bateman after Jason and Justine, but we’re expecting a fourth season of Ozark more than this one. Things will only become more difficult if Marquise Brown (thigh) is unable to play again to draw attention away from Bateman.
Courtland Sutton, Broncos vs. Chargers (Lutovsky). Sutton has just been paid, but with just five catches and 78 yards in his past three games, he’s not someone you can start against the Chargers’ top five-pass defense.
Week 12 Fantasy Football Busts: Tight Ending
CJ Uzomah, Bengals vs Steelers (Spark). Let’s keep this really simple. Uzomah is an “all or nothing” player on a tight finish and we think he will be on the “nothing” side of the equation against the Steelers defensive unit that has allowed just two Narrow end more than 41 meters received . One was Darren Waller and the other was a Cole Kmet-supported performance.
Hunter Henry, Patriots vs. Titans (Iyer). The match is a bit complicated, so be aware it could be a TD-or-bust week for him with extended players getting more involved.
Pat Freiermuth, Steelers @ Bengals (Lutovsky). Freiermuth has seen at least six goals and four catches in each of the past five games, and that type of deck is hard to find in TE. If you’re just looking for some decent basic stats, Freiermuth might still work. But he has only 42 yards in his last two games combined, so he’s not exactly a high-stat player. The Bengals have a top 10 defense against fantasy TEs, making this a potential position for Freiermuth.
Week 12 Fantasy Busts: Defense
Pittsburgh Steelers @ Bengals (Spark). It’s time to face the truth when it comes to Steelers’ D/ST in fantasy: It’s no longer good, at least not with TJ Watt (knee/hip) out of the lineup. The Bengals attack has the power to destroy Pittsburgh, just as the Chargers did in Week 11.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers @ Colts (Iyer). They cool off from Monday night, as the Colts tend to be protective and are careful with the ball behind their ability to defend a good pass.
Denver Broncos charger vs (Lutovsky). Denver’s D/ST has been up and down a bit this year, but the Charger is now too hot to use protection against. LA has allowed four sacks, two lessons, and is averaging 29.3 strike points/match in the past three competitions. The Broncos have both low floors and low ceilings, even at home.
