Watches and Wonders 2024: Patek Philippe

From content partner JustLuxe iW Magazine

In the number eleven new watches introduced by Patek Philippe in Watches and Wonders, one launch stands out for its technical advancement. Others, by contrast, enliven existing collections with new colours, new casual (denim) straps, new case metals or, to make a statement, a sleek new bracelet.

New Patek Philippe World Time Ref. 5330G-001 Watch

World Timer localization

The latest Patek Philippe World Time joins the complete collection after its limited edition debut last year at the Patek Philippe Grand Exhibition Watch Art Tokyo 2023.

Watch, Reference 5330G-001 Now featuring a date display synchronized with local time, a world-first patented and particularly useful travel function.

Patek Philippe watchmakers have added a dedicated differential system to the watch’s automatic movement. The resulting change means the local date appears along the edge of the dial, indicated by a transparent glass hand (a first for Patek Philippe) with a red tip.

In this illustration, note that the new Patek Philippe Caliber 240 HU C features a patented central differential system consisting of two concentric star-shaped gears to manage the local time and date. The local time is the time zone selected at 12 o’clock and is indicated by the central hand.

With a 40mm white gold case and a beautiful blue-gray opaline dial (featuring a block-patterned carbon center), this luxurious timepiece allows the wearer to press the pusher at 10 o’clock to change the local time zone indicated on the watch on the hourly basis.

With this simple gesture, travelers can view local time and note global time zone differences, as displayed on the multi-city indicator clock.

Patek Philippe has unveiled the new World Time Reference Ref. 5330G-001, which comes with a new denim strap and a regular bracelet, which are also seen on other launch watches. The price is $76,594.

The latest Patek Philippe Golden Ellipse

Gold Ellipse Bracelet

Another highlight at the Patek Philippe exhibition in Geneva was the new soft gold chain bracelet attached to the always elegant Golden Ellipse, Reference 5738/1R.

Although commonly mounted on various precious metal bracelets since its introduction in 1968, in recent years the Golden Ellipse has been primarily a leather strap model, partly due to the difficulty of measuring bracelet sizes at the time of sale.

Patek Philippe explains that the new bracelet is the result of fifteen years of work. It is made of 18-karat hand-polished rose gold and features a new, patented structure consisting of 363 parts, including more than 300 links, assembled by hand.

With the engraved cap, the new clasp (above) offers three adjustment options.

The bracelet is mounted on a new rose gold version of the 34.5mm x 39.5mm fashion icon. For its launch, Patek Philippe has created a new sunburst ebony black dial with baton-style hour markers and thin rose gold hands.

Inside, Patek Philippe houses its famous self-winding caliber 240, an ultra-thin movement with an off-center 22-karat gold mini-rotor. The movement’s slim profile means the Golden Ellipse Reference 5738 is currently the thinnest watch in Patek Philippe’s regular collection. Price: $60,097.
