Watch this taxi robot avoid accidents like a human

Self-driving taxi service provider Waymo has shown how its so-called self-driving cars react to difficult situations just like humans.

Waymo isn’t always perfect. We recently reported on one of their taxis suffering stopped in its tracks by a man wearing a stop sign t-shirt, or by another person crashed into a cyclist this early year.

Public opposition to driverless cars also peaked in February, when a Waymo self-driving taxi was launched. burned because of protests in San Francisco.

But this latest incident was a much more positive encounter, as a Waymo taxi acted quickly and effectively to avoid a potentially serious accident in the United States.

Watch the onboard footage here:

In response to the vehicle heading straight towards you, Waymo’s autopilot system quickly redirected the vehicle off the road and safely out of the way.

Not only does it maintain control on unpaved surfaces, but it also glows like a human. In terms of self-driving car technology, it has certainly come a long way.

In two separate cases, Waymo vehicles were seen easily following traffic controllers’ instructions while traveling through a busy intersection in Los Angeles. Take a look here:

Here’s another example where the vehicle obeys police instructions at an intersection where the traffic lights are not working:

At the end of last year, Waymo reported Compared to human standards, it reduced injuring crash rates by 85% over seven million driver-only miles.

Police-reported collision rates were also reduced by 57% compared to human statistics.
