A small North Carolina town was startled by a major crash when a CSX train collided with a stuck tractor trailer yesterday afternoon. It’s 2023 and most people in the US have a mobile phone with a camera, so there’s a lot of footage of the dramatic crash. This is the third time in town railway crossing accident this year, and local authorities discussed changes to prevent future incidents.
WCNC report that around 5 p.m. yesterday, a tractor carrying bricks became stuck on the railroad crossing over Main Street in Wingate, North Carolina. Wingate is a small town with a population of about 4,000, roughly equal to the number of students at Wingate University. Before the truck could move, a CSX train ran straight through the trailer, causing bricks to fly everywhere. Fortunately, no one was injured. Despite this, police arrested the truck driver after police claimed to have found drugs in the taxi.
Malik Jordan, a Wingate University student, was picking up a pizza nearby when the accident happened. He tell WSOC About his experience, he said: “The second I walked out, I looked to the right and there was a truck on the tracks. I was surprised. I was like ‘Oh my, I can’t believe this is happening. Jordan added, “It seems very powerful. You saw dust flying everywhere.”
In January, two other trucks were stuck by trains after getting stuck at one of Wingate’s three intersections. The Wingate Board of Trustees met in March to discuss potential improvements to the crossings. One The logical solution mentioned is to level the ground at each intersection to prevent the trailer from hitting the tracks.
