Wasserman Announces Show Launch on Channel 5, Josh Kelly Returns

Details of Wasserman Boxing’s premiere show on Channel 5 were announced today.

Indigo at the O2 will host the event on Friday, May 13, and featuring on the card will be the return of Olympian Josh Kelly 2016. The 28-year-old from Sunderland fought one last time. in February 2021 when he was stopped for 6order after a crushing defeat to David Avnesyan to win the European welterweight title.

“I am delighted to be back in the ring and starting this new chapter in my career,” Kelly said in a press release.

“This is where I belong, and I can’t wait to get back there and put on a show. I took some time to work through some personal issues after my last game but now I’m ready to get back to what I do best. The next step in my career will be huge. I’m chasing world titles. I don’t join the game for anything less. I know I’ll have to dig deep to get there but I’m willing to do whatever it takes to win a world title whether it’s welterweight or super. ”

Also on the bill was the empty middleweight clash of the British between Linus Udofia and Denzel Bentley. The second was a recent former champion but lost his first defense to Felix Cash, who then vacated the Lonsdale belt.

Udofia, the former British champion, said: “I have seen a lot of Denzel Bentleys. He’s a good operator, he’s very skillful and I think our style will be really good. This will be a good fight for the public. ”

Bentley is desperate to regain the old title and believes the fight against Udofia is an uphill battle.

“I know my opponent Linus Udofia is a good fighter and it will be a real 50-50 fight. I am expecting a passionate and fan-friendly love affair. I can’t wait until the night fight. I want to prove that I am still one of the best fighters of the tournament. ”

Elsewhere, Harlem Eubank meets Sean Dodd in superlightweight while Brad Pauls faces Ryan Kelly in the England middleweight title elimination. “We are delighted to begin our partnership with Channel 5 with this amazing free-to-air televised event,” said Wasserman Global Head of Boxing, Kalle Sauerland. “When we signed the deal with Channel 5, we said we wanted to revolutionize free boxing in the UK by bringing the biggest and best fights possible to the public. The revolution begins now”.
