Veterinarian performs life-saving surgery after Pit Bull swallows drone
Dogs are masters at stealthily eating things they shouldn’t, but one Tampa woman experienced it for the first time when her dog used a drone. She didn’t know how it happened, but the poor dog started acting really bad.
When she brought her dog in for urgent care, she feared she wouldn’t be able to pay her medical bills. But thanks to the help of many dog lovers, the woman didn’t have to default on her debt to keep her dog alive. Had it not been for her to arrive so quickly, the drone would have likely killed her furry friend.
Detect a foreign object
Lindsey Williams quickly became worried when her Pit Bull named Jada went into a coma and started vomiting. She wasn’t eating or drinking, so Williams monitored her for 24 hours. When symptoms didn’t improve, Williams took Jada to Humane Society of Tampa . Bay to ask for help.
Dr. Justin Boorstein at Human Society said that Jada had eaten a foreign object and needed surgery. After taking a closer look, he found that she had drone fragments inside her body. Jada may also have used a partial finger splint. Williams is currently unemployed, so she fears she won’t be able to afford the surgery.
“I cried because I was so scared. I was worried. I was absolutely terrified,” Williams said. “For me, it was very emotional because I felt like I failed her because I couldn’t afford the surgery.”
Surgery was a success!
Dr. Boorstein performed surgery on Jada, saving her life. He said if the pieces of the drone were not removed, the puppy would be in a critical condition within the next few days.
“If Jada hadn’t had surgery, I would say 24-48 hours, unfortunately, there would probably have been a hole in the intestine leading to an infection in the abdomen and the prognosis was very poor,” Dr. Boorstein said.
The humanitarian society helped Williams pay for Jada’s surgery using donations from their “Save a Pet” fund. More and more pet parents are finding it difficult to pay their medical bills, so the Pet Savings fund is designed to assist families in need of help with vet expenses.

Jada is doing well, considering everything. It’s not clear why she thinks a drone can be delicious, but she probably regrets eating it. Dogs may enjoy eating random outside objects, but in some cases, those objects can be life-threatening. So it’s always a good idea to keep an eye on your furry friend on the outside.
