VEP: renewal/cancellation of registration for Singapore cars can now be done online, responding to queries faster – Loke
The Department of Transport says improvements to the Vehicle Entry Permit (VEP) was introduced before implementing the system at the Malaysia-Singapore border from October 1According to Transport Minister Anthony Loke, the updates were made after receiving feedback from the ministry.
He said VEP renewals can now be done online without having to wait for the current VEP tag to expire, even for vehicles that have changed ownership. He added that VEPs that expire five years from the date of registration will be automatically cancelled.
“Notifications will be sent to vehicle owners 60 days, 30 days and 10 days before the VEP expiry date,” he said, adding that these changes, which were introduced in the VEP portal on June 28 , will minimize the need to use e-mail. or counterproductive.
He said to facilitate faster response to queries and issues, the number of staff handling email queries has been increased from five to 15 and the number of VEP Collection Centre (VCC) staff has also been increased from seven to 12. “This will help speed up the process of responding to any queries via email or at the counter, which have multiplied since the enforcement notice,” he said.
Loke added that more improvements will be rolled out in the near future, including the introduction of the open road toll payment system (OPS), which will allow the use of credit and debit cards as an additional option to Touch N’ Go for road toll (RC) payments.
He said the OPS feature will be available from August 1, but users can download the MDGS app via Google Play Store or Apple App Store to customize and understand the app’s functionality first.
Loke said since the VEP enforcement notice was issued, a total of 23,649 applications were received from May 28 to June 29, exceeding the 15,424 applications for the entire year 2023. In During the same period, a total of 6,120 VEP cards were issued to applicants, while a total of 1,080 VEP cards were activated.
The unit reminds drivers to activate the VEP card by uploading a photo of the license plate along with the attached VEP card at VEP Portal after receiving the VEP card. The VEP card is invalid if not activated.
