Using Prime Lenses for Landscape Photography

The standard lens of choice for landscape photography is an ultra-wide zoom lens, such as the 16-35mm f/4. When working in a genre where you have no control over the placement of elements in the scene and it often takes considerable physical effort to get to a position, zooming can be a huge utility. However, a prime lens still has its place. This great video tutorial features an experienced landscape photographer sharing the benefits of using a prime lens for landscape work.

Coming to you from Nigel DansonThis great video tutorial discusses the advantages of using prime lens for landscape photography. Perhaps the biggest benefit of a fixed prime lens in this situation is actually the limitations it imposes. It’s easy to get into the habit of shooting the same shot over and over again when you have the convenience of a zoom, but a fixed number of primes will force you to work around its limitations by experimenting with compositions , different perspectives, etc. Usually, one of the best ways to increase your creativity is to set a limit for yourself and go beyond it. Check out the video above for the full rundown from Danson.
