What Does Usher Think Of The Title “R&B King”?

During the interview, Usher admitted that others gave him honorifics, and Thembi asked if he personally agreed.

In turn, Usher noted that “limitations”[ing]”Being yourself the king of R&B is ‘too short-sighted’.

“If I were to limit myself to being an R&B king, I would be short-sighted. I love R&B – R&B is a difference with [so many] things.”

However, as “everyone gave [him] that title,” he said he would “take it.” However, he pointed out, “It’s more than that.”

Instead, Usher notes that he’s more concerned with keeping the genre going and making sure it “doesn’t go away.”

“I invest more in making sure it doesn’t fade.”

He further explains that, as he sees other genres dwindling in popularity over time, he hopes “R&B never does.” As a result, Usher said he “wanted”[s] to continue to encourage people to listen to it.”

“Music that was once popular is no longer popular. Not as strong – they don’t have much interest. I hope that R&B never does that, so I want to continue to encourage people to listen to it.”

He gives the genre its flowers: “R&B’s child is Hip Hop”

While talking about the subject, Thembi continued to bring up the ongoing conversation about how R&B is supposed to be “dead”.

In return, Usher stated that he disagreed with this sentiment. Instead, he said, “I think there are different aspects of it that can be considered.”

He also acknowledges the influence of R&B on the hip-hop game.

“When I think about how R&B really breathes life into hip hop. Don’t forget that if it didn’t exist, hip hop wouldn’t exist.”

The artist ended by adding, “So the offspring of R&B is hip hop.” You should preach, Usher!
