US Open 2024 picks, odds: Surprising Sunday prediction from PGA golf model that nailed 12 majors

Bryson DeChambeau holds the 54-hole lead in a major championship for the first time in his career as he heads into Sunday’s final round at the 2024 US Open with a three-stroke advantage over Rory McIlroy, Patrick Cantlay and Matthieu Pavon. DeChambeau won the 2020 US Open, finished 6th in the Masters earlier this year and was runner-up at the PGA Championship last month. He is the -110 favorite (risk $110 to win $100) in the 2024 US Open odds, followed by McIlroy (+330) and Cantlay (+700). Should you back DeChambeau to get his US Open 2024 betting done?

Some other US Open 2024 contenders include Ludvig Aberg (+1600), Matthieu Pavon (+1600) and Hideki Matsuyama (+1600). The rest of the 2024 US Open is at 40-1 odds, but is there any US Open longshot worth backing to advance to the final round? Our exclusive model, built by DFS expert Mike McClure, has been extremely hot since the PGA Tour resumed in June 2020. In fact, it’s grown nearly $9,000 for Best bets since the restart, tournament after tournament.

McClure’s model correctly predicted Scheffler would top the leaderboard at the 2024 Masters, the Arnold Palmer Invitational and this season’s The Players Championship. McClure also included Hideki Matsuyama in his list of best bets to win the 2024 Genesis Invitational. That bet came in at +9000, and for the entire tournament, McClure’s best bet returned nearly $1,000.

The model also predicted Rahm to win at the 2023 Sentry Tournament of Champions and The American Express. At the 2023 Masters, the model picked up the second biggest win of Rahm’s career over the weekend . Rahm trailed the lead by two strokes heading into the third round, but the model still predicted him as the winner. This is the second consecutive Masters championship for the model, and also gives Scheffler a win in 2022.

This same pattern has also hit a whopping 12 majors entering the weekend, including the last three Masters and the 2024 PGA Championship. Anyone who has followed it has moved on.

Top US Open 2024 predictions

A big surprise the model is calling for at the 2024 US Open on Sunday: Pavon, who was tied for second and was one of the top favorites, stumbled and finished outside the top 5. He got off to a hot start in the front nine on Saturday, taking the solo lead with three birdies and six pars. His luck changed on the back nine, when he hit a pair of bogeys to lose the lead.

The 31-year-old has never finished in the top 10 at a major championship, so he has no experience playing near the top of the leaderboard on Sunday. He’s missed the cut in his last two US Open appearances, and he has just one career PGA Tour win. The model expects Pavon to taper off on Sunday, predicting he will eventually finish outside the top five. Look who’s weak here.

Another surprise: Collin Morikawa, who shot 45-1, made a strong run to the title. He has a much better chance of winning than the odds imply, so he’s a target for anyone looking for a huge payday. Morikawa barely made a round of 74 on Friday, but he bounced back with an impressive 66 on Saturday to move to within seven strokes of the lead. He made three birdies on the back nine and played a bogey-free round while everyone else shot the spread.

The former Cal star hasn’t won a tournament since the Zozo Championship last October, but he has consistently appeared in major championships. Morikawa has five top-10 finishes in his last seven starts this season, including a runner-up finish at the Memorial last week. The two-time major champion will enter the final round with a chance to make some noise and move up the leaderboard once again. See who else to come back to here.

How to make picks at the 2024 US Open

The model is also targeting three other golfers with odds of 45-1 or better to win the title strongly. Anyone who favors these long shots can achieve great success. You can just see the model’s picks here.
