US host says Russia may attend APEC meetings

Russia will be invited to the US-hosted Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) meetings next year, a US official said on Monday.

Matt Murray, a senior US official at APEC, said that as the “good manager of APEC”, the US would invite Russia, a member of the 21-nation bloc.

Relations between Washington and Moscow have deteriorated to their worst point in 60 years since Russia invaded Ukraine in February, an act the country justified as a “special military operation”, but has since causing Western countries as well as Singapore to punish and condemn.
