Ever since I got into digital photography, I’ve always been a Photoshop user. That’s mainly because Lightroom didn’t exist when I first started using the software to edit my images, and as I became more proficient with Photoshop and familiar with its features and interface, I never really saw the need to change. To a certain extent, that’s mostly still true, since I’m so comfortable with Photoshop it’s still my default platform. That said, in the last few years, Lightroom has grown so much as a standalone editing tool that for some jobs these days, I prefer using Lightroom. . However, I’m the first to admit that my skills in Lightroom are still far behind Photoshop, so I’m always on the lookout for tutorials and tips.
And that brings us to this amazing video by Mark Denney, in which he deconstructs some of Lightroom’s most essential tools. What I really like about this video is that Denney freely admits there are many ways to do things in Lightroom, but he gives great examples of why some of the commonly used methods actually work. not the best method. For example, he discusses vignetting and whether to use Lightroom’s default vignetting tool, in the Effects panel or radial vignette, in the Basic panel.
