Ukraine: Ben Stiller visits conflict-torn country after meeting refugee families in Poland | World News

Hollywood actor Ben Stiller was photographed in Ukraine a day after he met Ukrainian refugees in Poland who were forced to flee the war across the border.

The USA star, 56, was spotted strolling in Lviv on Sunday as he talked on his cell phone.

The western city was attacked by Russian forces during the invasion lasted months but it remained relatively peaceful compared to the onslaught in the east of the country.

Stiller, a goodwill ambassador for the UNHCR (United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees), had flown to Rzeszow in southeastern Poland the day before in an attempt to raise awareness about the plight of refugees.

On his Instagram page, he says he is meeting with families “whose lives have been torn apart by war and violence in Ukraine“.

He said millions of people were forced from their homes, with more than 90% of them women and children, following the invasion of President Vladimir Putin’s army.

Stiller added: “I’m here to learn, share stories that illustrate the human impact of war, and to amplify calls for solidarity.

“Everybody has the right to seek safety. Anyone. Anywhere. Anytime.”

In one image, he is pictured meeting with workers from UNHCR.

In another post, the Zoolander and Tropic Thunder stars were seen holding two refugee children near the Medyka border in Poland.

“I’ve had the opportunity to meet a number of families fleeing the war in Ukraine, leaving loved ones behind without knowing when they’ll be able to return home – or have a home to return to,” he said.

In April, Hollywood actress and UN humanitarian Angelina Jolie made a surprise visit to Lviv where she talks to evacuees who have found refuge in the city.

And last month, Bono and The Edge of Irish rock band U2 performed a concert at a metro station in the capital Kyiv to support the people of Ukraine.
