Toyota Hilux GR Sport – 224 PS, 550 Nm 2.8 diesel engine with wider tread, tuned suspension launched in Australia

Toyota Hilux GR Sport exists in many forms in many different markets – we have seen Europe, Thai, Japanese and South Africa previous versions, but this Australian version is the hardest and closest to being a Ranger Raptor opponents so far.

Under the hood, the 2.8-liter four-cylinder turbodiesel engine is tuned to output up to 224 hp and 550 Nm of torque, which was previously only available on the South African version. This is complemented by sportier tuning for the automatic transmission.

The Aussie Hilux GR Sport also has wider grooves – 140 mm wider at the front and 155 mm wider at the rear, with redesigned wishbones and reinforced rear axle. Single-tube shock absorbers with higher damping force and heat dissipation combined with stiffer coil springs increase stability by reducing rolling angles and more precise steering. The Hilux GR Sport also has larger brake discs.

Inside, the cockpit is monochromatic black with light sport pedals and red seat belts. The GR branding stands out inside and out, including on the steering wheel, headrests, red brake calipers and exterior badging.

In Malaysia, the most advanced variant of the Hilux is the Rogue, which is equipped with a 2.8-liter 4-cylinder turbodiesel engine with 204 horsepower and 500 Nm of torque. With the petrol Ranger Raptor with the latest version, do you think there will be room for the Hilux GR Sport for diesel fans?
