The Toyota bZ4X was said to the Malaysian market in 2023, and now it’s official – UMW Toyota Motor has announced that the all-electric SUV will actually hit the local market next year.
Its arrival next year means Malaysia will join Thailand and Indonesia in the sale of the BZ4X, which was launched in both of those markets in the same month, in November 2022. The price of the bZ4X in Malaysia is yet to be revealed, although for reference, this electric SUV is priced from at launch was 1.836 million baht (RM235,242) in Thailand and 1.19 billion rupiah (RM352,040) in Indonesia.
In Malaysia, the price of bZ4X will take into account exempt from import tax and excise tax until December 31, 2024, this is an exemption for electric vehicles imported in complete units (imported in complete units).
UK prices could be indicative of the electric SUV’s price when it arrives in Malaysia, with UK prices starting at £41,950 (RM238,000) for the base variant. The next upgraded version costs £45,750 (RM259,000), which could be close to the final product for Malaysia.
Between the versions for the Thai and Indonesian markets, Thailand receives an all-wheel drive version with 109 hp in each axle for a total capacity of 218 hp and 337 Nm of torque. Meanwhile, Indonesia gets the FWD configuration with 204 hp and 266 Nm of torque sent to the front wheels.
Both markets receive the same 71.4 kWh lithium-ion battery pack, with the Thai-market car having a range of 411 km (WLTP) and the Indonesia-imported model reaching a range of up to 500 km (WLTP). Similarities also extend to charging options between the Thai and Indonesian markets, as both support AC charging with a capacity of up to 6.6 kW via the Type 2 connection and DC charging through the connection. CCS2 with power up to 150 kW.
Looking at the car for the Thai market for reference, the safety kit on the bZ4X includes eight airbags (dual front, front center, sides and curtains) and the usual passive system array (ABS) , EBD, hill start assist, traction control, VSC).
Meanwhile, the TSS 3.0 safety suite includes dynamic radar cruise control, blind spot monitor, rear cross-traffic alert, panoramic display, pre-collision safety (automatic emergency braking), scene lane departure warning, lane keeping assist and parking assist.
