In an apology and announcement on Aoni Production’s homepage (as of June 22, 2024), Aoni Production explained that it had discussed the recent scandal involving Furuya has an affair with him. Because his behavior damaged the image of Sabo and Amuro, he was asked to give up those two roles. He complied. At the end of the announcement, Aoni Production apologized to all fans of those two works as well as the staff and cast.
At the end of the message, Furuya added his own apology. He said that he caused a lot of trouble for everyone due to his actions. For reference, the scandal refers to Furuya cheating on his wife with a fan of his work, specifically Amuro in Detective Conan. When they hang out, he often talks to her while affecting the character Amuro’s accent.
