Tony Award Winners 2022: The Complete List
The Tony Award returned to Radio City Music Hall for the first time since June 2019. The awards ceremony, honoring plays and musicals staged on Broadway and continuing its traditional calendar after a long pandemic hit On hiatus, the honored work opened on Broadway between February 20, 2020 and May 4, 2022. (“Girl from the North Country” premiered on March 5, 2020, just a week ago. when theaters closed because of the pandemic.)
Ariana DeBose, the former Broadway actor turned Oscar winner, hosted a three-hour broadcast of the Tony Awards on CBS, preceded by a one-hour segment hosted by Darren Criss and Julianne Hough on Paramount+. “A Strange Loop” won best musical and “The Lehman Trilogy” won best play at a glittering ceremony celebrating Broadway’s return. Myles Frost won his first Tony Award for Best Actor in a Musical for “MJ,” his first Broadway debut (and acting professionally). And there are performances from some of the biggest musical highlights of the past year: “Company,” “Girl from the North Country,” and “Paradise Square,” among others.
