Almost a year ago, Limited run game has been announced that it is working on a re-release Tomba!, PlayStation 2.5D platform. And after nearly 12 months of silence, Tomba! has reappeared, And it’s about to turn on August 1, 2024 (Thank, Gematsu!).
Tomba! Special version is an enhanced re-release created for modern consoles using the Carbon engine. Plus, original creator Tokuro Fujiwara has teamed up with LRG to bring the classic back to life. This isn’t just a simple remaster — the Special Edition adds new features to the 1997 classic to help introduce the game to a whole new audience.
in one Interview with PlayStation.blog, Fujiwara — along with LRG Vice President of Marketing Alena Alambeigi — talked about the challenges of creating the original PlayStation, specifically talking about the combination of 2D and 3D visuals to create a 2.5 platformer. D. The duo also chat about Tomba’s impact and why now is the right time to bring the game back.
Fujiwara was originally a director and producer at Capcom who worked on many classics such as Ghosts and goblins, biological commandos, Mega Man 2 (and many other Mega Man games), and is credited with coming up with the idea to remake his horror RPG Sweet House. He left the company in 1996 and Tomba! was born from the desire to create something unique.
Tomba! It’s more than just a platformer — it also has open-world and RPG elements, and plenty of side quests to explore. But as mentioned above, the Special Edition will add new features to the game.
