Tim Tszyu knocks out Carlos Ocampo in one round
By: Sean Crose
Famed junior middleweight Tim Tszyu, 22-0, vs Carlos Ocampo, 35-2, early (very early) Sunday at the Gold Coast Convention Center in Australia, Tszyu’s hometown. The match, scheduled for the 12th, was for Tszyu’s WBO interim junior middleweight title. It’s the main event of the two-match Showtime card starting at 11:30 p.m. east coast time.
Tszyu rocked his men instantly in the first round. Then he rocked his man again. And one more time. Less than a minute into the fight, Ocampo appeared to be in considerable trouble. A thunderous forehand knocks Ocampo down. He got up but the opening half wasn’t even half over yet. Seconds later, Tszyu knocks out Ocampo with a left-handed rocket. The entire fight lasted less than 90 seconds.
“I just want Charlo on my resume,” Tszyu said after the game, referring to junior middleweight world champion Jermell Charlo. “I did it faster than your guy (Errol Spence), man… let’s dance.” Indeed, a highly anticipated Charlo-Tszyu fight. “The adult is Charlo,” Tszyu told the Australian crown. “Then get your ticket. Plan all your vacations, because I’ll be back with four belts.”
