Thursday Midday Summary from the SMP ASBK . Test

Australian Superbike Championship 2023 mi-bike organized by Motul

Superbike Thursday Part Two

I was expecting more riders to go faster this morning at Sydney Motorsport Park and I was not disappointed. Josh Waters set a brand new ASBK benchmark of 1.29,570 versus Cru Halliday’s 1m29,658, also set this morning. Mike Jones is also at 29th this morning with 1m29,997.

However, the 50-degree track temperature in the second session shortly after noon left few drivers to improve their position this session. Josh Waters was fastest in the third and final round of the session, 1m29,761. Next best Cru Halliday on 1m30.254. Mike Jones is the tallest in this match with a height of 1m30,882.

Troy Herfoss has not managed to overshadow her Wednesday the best record is 1m30,024 this morning but interestingly Lachlan Epis lowered his score this morning to 1m30,275 after switching to the Dunlop rubber he will run in the Racing Championship Asian road car this year. Herfoss achieved 1m30,409 in this warmer second session while Epis achieved 1m30,696.

Max Stauffer has been constantly evolving his way and getting faster and faster. His best is 1m30,824 on Wednesday then further improved to 1m30,603 this morning. Even so, warmer conditions in this second session sent him sliding back towards 1m31,088.

Broc Pearson fell this morning that has hindered his progress but his 1m30,235 on Wednesday signal its potential. The best broc in this one is 1m30,951.

Senna Agius did a lot of laps not only to have time to sit before returning to Europe but also to test the Michelin tires on the JMT Civil Fireblade. So far, his best of 1m30,810 was recorded during this session on a hot track.

The third Superbike session is scheduled to begin around 14:00 this afternoon before the final 25-minute session ends at 16:10.

Supersport Thursday Part Two

Harrison Voight surpassed Jamie Stauffer’s longstanding Supersport lap record this morning at Sydney Motorsports Park. Harry is 1m32,486 faster than Stauffer’s 1m32,654 lap record from 2008, but Voight still has to be a bit faster if he is to eclipse Jamie’s Supersport qualifying record of 1m32,009, also from 2008.

Voight improved further in the second session on Thursday morning, hitting 1m32,480 in the first lap which he improved back a few laps later, lowering his marker to 1m32,138, advancing closer to Jamie’s full eligibility criteria. Harry made it with more laps faster but didn’t quite get there. The 16-year-old has now packed up his things for the day and is on his way home. He will compete in the opening round of the Australian Superbike Championship at Phillip Island later this month before heading back to Europe for the 2023 FIM Moto2 European Championship.
