This unseasoned pumpkin coffee for cats is anything but basic [Recipe]
- Not a substitute for professional veterinary help.
Autumn is approaching, and it can only mean one thing: everything pumpkin! It’s bound to be part of our snacks and sips this season, and you might be tempted Share a portion of your pumpkin-flavored treat with your kittenalso.
Unfortunately, there’s nothing safe about sharing a slice of pumpkin pie or a sip of pumpkin spice latte with your cat. There are some holiday spices that are a must-have for our pets, like nutmeg. Plus, ingredients like sugar, whole milk, and butter can be a hazard to anyone’s diet — especially our oblivious carnivorous cats.
That’s why we embarked on research to create a cat-friendly, spiceless pumpkin coffee for cats. For this late summer and early fall treatment, we’ve combined nutritious pure pumpkin with frozen bone broth for a refreshing taste your cat will love.
Of course, we also omitted the coffee in this recipe because Caffeine is toxic to pets. Our taste-testing cats Atlas and Lyra didn’t seem to miss it at all!

- 1/8 water + 1 tablespoon
- 1 teaspoon Dehydrated goat milk
- 1 teaspoon unflavored gelatin
Device
- Freezer
- Small mixing bowl and microwave safe bowl

- Microwave oven
- Electric mixer or immersion blender
- Optional: Cups serve safely in the freezer
Guide
- If adding cat-friendly “whipping cream,” prepare it by placing the small mixing bowl and whisk in the freezer for about 10-15 minutes. Meanwhile, swell the gelatin.
- In a small microwaveable bowl, add 1 teaspoon of unflavored gelatin to 1 teaspoon of cold water. Let stand, about five minutes, until thickened and gel-like.
- While the gelatin is blooming, make an unseasoned pumpkin latte by putting pumpkin puree, dehydrated goat’s milk, and water in a blender or food processor. Add ice or frozen bone broth, mix and add ice until desired texture is achieved. Place in the refrigerator and prepare the “fresh cream” topping.
- In the freezer-cooled mixing bowl, mix the goat’s milk and 1/8 cup water. Mix with an electric mixer until frothy.
- Heat the expanded gelatin in the microwave for a few seconds, just until the mixture is liquid but not hot.
- Still whisking the goat’s milk, slowly add in the softened gelatin. Beat until frothy and thickened, then place in the freezer for about 5 minutes to form soft peaks.
- Pour the seasoned pumpkin latte into small serving cups or your cat’s favorite bowl. Top with a box of “whispered cream”.
Note
* When serving, this food will be pasty but not frozen. For a room temperature or warm treatment, simply substitute water or warm water or water for ice cubes, and blend to your desired consistency.
The unseasoned pumpkin latte and the remaining whipped topping can be frozen and defrosted.
