Your camera brand is probably more important than you might initially think. Unless you’re Jared Polin, you won’t be able to change the entire camera system just because one brand does something better than the other. This is why there are camps associated with camera brands. In this article, I will discuss the simple reason I use Canon.
Simple answer
The reason I use Canon as a photographer is because it’s a camera that my dad happened to buy when I was a kid and a camera I picked up by accident. I bought lenses for that film camera, and those lenses eventually went to digital Canon, and those digital Canons just kept getting better and better. This is the real and very simple reason I use Canon as a professional photographer. I was simply born into this system and have never tested the alternatives.
The answer is more complicated
However, if you’re starting to take pictures at an age where it doesn’t matter what camera your dad has, allow me to make a case for a Canon camera, because I’ll still buy one. classic If I had to choose a 35mm digital camera in 2023.
Color Science
Canon is the brand that comes to mind when it comes to color science in non-medium format digital cameras. They are the king of image quality, and this camera is renowned for its color accuracy, dynamic range, and overall sharpness. It’s a camera that, despite only taking 8-megapixel stills, can produce beautiful raw colors that are fun to edit in post-production. There’s nothing quite like it, really. It produces stunning images that leave me speechless.

There are millions of EF lenses in the world. Even after decades of EF becoming the norm, it is still very easy to find any type of FD glass, especially on eBay. You can go anywhere in the world and you are sure to find the EF lens you need. It is very accessible and readily available. Furthermore, there are lenses for every basic need. Whether it’s a technical tilt-shift lens or an all-round superzoom camera like Canon EF 28-300Canon has it all. Whatever the project, Canon guarantees photographers from a variety of costs. For example, if you want to shoot the famous 85mm prime lens, you don’t need to invest in the expensive f/1.2 version. The F/1.8 can do the same job for a lower price. Canon is a great brand that offers solutions at a variety of price points, making it both beginner and professional friendly. The quality of the lenses themselves need not be mentioned. Easy to use
I love learning new things, but I hate having to learn a camera system. All I needed from that black box filled with electronics was to take pictures. I don’t need fine adjustments to focus modes and dual pixel raw, which are more or less useless. Canon does an incredible job with ease of use. I could actually pick up the 1D Mark II and learn how to use it. I’ve never had to open a Canon manual and I think that’s a sign of a good device. Maybe I’m spoiled, but whenever the manual comes out, something is too complicated for the average user. Another point of ease of use that I would like to make is the dial placement. The dials are more or less in the same position regardless of the camera. For example, take 5D Classic and 5D MarkIVand the basic functions will remain in the same place.
reliability
I sincerely hope that my camera will last for many years to come. I can count on my equipment to do the shots. Luckily, I didn’t even think about the device anymore. I just grabbed my camera from the lanyard trolley and it worked. While the cosmetic wear on my camera has decreased significantly as I shoot more in the studio, it still falls to the floor, it still spills and rolls from time to time. The only significant downside to all Canon cameras that I want to point out is that if one port fails, you’re considering replacing the motherboard. Simply call your local service center that is part of CPS (Canon Professional Services) and pick up a device. In major cities like Paris or New York, they may even offer overnight replacement for some damage. I was able to change the shutter and mirror in a few business days and was able to get up in no time.
Stop thinking
So while the real reason I use Canon is pretty simple and childish, I’m glad my dad made the right choice in the ’90s and bought a Canon. It’s hard to imagine taking pictures with another brand because the services and reliability scores aren’t as good as Canon’s.
