You’d be surprised how many times you might want to change the color of something in post-production. This video shows you how to do it quickly and easily in Adobe Lightroom.
Before I started, I couldn’t imagine how many times I would need to change the color of everything in my promotional photo. I thought I would just have to choose the right model, props, clothes, etc. This is naive. In fact, I often have to shoot without any color in the perfect frame, and then change it up in post-production.
If you had asked me ten years ago, I would have affirmed my opinion that there is no need to change hair color. Then I had a short piece of land in my inbox that wanted a specific type of portrait, and I pre-shot a photo that would be a great fit. However, there were two problems: first, they wanted it in the snow and I shot it during peak summer. This is easily remedied because the image has a shallow depth of field, so I just did some color correction and then added some fuzzy snowflakes. Second, they wanted a redhead and my model blonde. Again, I fixed it with some color correction and the image was suddenly exactly what they were after.
You don’t often need to correct your hair color, at least in my experience, but the tools to do it are well worth owning!
