This is what happened on day 2 of the Paris Air Show


The second day of the Paris Air Show was in the books, and it was a busy day.

Boeing and Airbus both posted big sales, while another drizzly and sultry day couldn’t stop the acrobatics of the traditional flight.

Boeing scored the program’s first orders with a trio of deals. After that US Secretary of State Antony Blinken and Chinese President Xi Jinping met in Beijing to discuss stabilizing trade relations between the two countries, China Eastern has closed an order for eight 787-9 Dreamliners and shipped six previous orders to the larger 787-10 variant.

National carrier Air Algérie has ordered eight 737 MAX 9 jets, while international leasing company Avolon has ordered 40 different narrow-body 737 MAXs. Meanwhile, Air India, after rival IndiGo broke records with Airbus on the opening day of the show, completed an order of up to 290 Boeing jetsincludes 190 new 737 MAX aircraft, 20 Dreamliners and 10 new 777Xs, which are expected to be certified and begin deliveries in 2025. The order includes options to purchase an additional 50 737 MAX and 20 aircraft. another 787 Dreamliner.

It’s also a good day for Airbus. Air India is also adamant One order for 250 jets from the European aircraft manufacturer, including 140 A320neos, 70 A321neos, 34 A350-1000 and six shorter A350-900s. Airbus has also completed orders with Philippine Airlines for nine A350-1000s and with Qantas for nine additional A220-300s.

supersonic boom announced several new suppliers for its faster-than-sound jet project, including Spanish aeronautical structure company Aernnova, which will build the jet’s wings; Italian aerospace company Leonardo for the fuselage and Spanish supplier Aciturri for the empire or flight control surface.

At the Boeing booth, a mock-up of the 777X cabin was displayed, showing that while it will be large and spacious enough to feel open and airy, like the current 777 generation, it it could mean 3-4-tight. 3-seat configuration on most carriers — same as the current 777 generation.

Behind Boeing’s main setup, Wisk Aero, an eVTOL (electrical vertical take-off and landing) company, has a full mock-up of its planned showcase aircraft. Wisk, founded in 2019 as an evolution of a project started in 2010, is owned by Boeing and is considered one of the main competitors in the emerging eVTOL space.

Because of the busy schedule, there was not much time to watch the flight, but what this reporter witnessed was impressive nonetheless.

Some incredible stunts from the Airbus H-665 Tigre caught the eye early on, while Airbus once again reminded that its new A321XLR is a formidable opponent.
