This 10-Year-Old Toyota Corolla Doesn’t Look Like It’s Worth $11,260 But What Do I Know
One reader seems to have emailed us outright a listing from an Ohio dealer asking for $11,260 for a 2013 Toyota Corolla, to my untrained eye, might not be worth $11,260, at least under normal circumstances. Unfortunately, we don’t live in normal circumstances.

Now, again, I’m no expert but it’s an interesting gap of the panel. That may not be Toyota’s intended construction, but rather the result of a crash or vandalism, but who can say. That also looks like it could be due to the donuts instead of the regular wheels and tires, although it could just be the lack of wheel hub caps; No situation is ideal.
Maybe if we scaled things down it would be better:

Not really! Because the damage is still pretty obvious. The vehicle’s description says, “Road Ready! Safety Tested!, Clean Carfax,” and at least one of those things must be true. The listing says the Corolla LE has driven 134,685 miles, which isn’t crazy for a Toyota but not great either.
The listing also says the car has a “retail price” of $12,895 but Ricart is offering a “direct market-based price” of $11,260 after applying a $1,635 discount for no reason. clear. These numbers are not made up at all.
For reference, I looked up a comparable Corolla on the Kelley Blue Book and they estimated it to be worth around $7,000, which is less than $11,260. Clearly, it’s not that Ricart is doing anything wrong here; they can charge whatever they want for their car and because the market is in a weird place right now, it looks like they are.
However, the rest of us needn’t pretend that it’s weird to see a car of this age, condition and mileage claim five figures. I’ve messaged Ricart to see if they can shed more light on the issue and will update this post if I get a response.
