‘They’re the reason I’m here today’
Matthew Stafford ended up winning a Super Bowl ring with the Rams, but the 13-year NFL veteran hasn’t forgotten where he came from.
Stafford spent the first 12 years of his career with the Lions. He’s played in just three playoffs in that span.

Despite his lack of success, he appreciates his time in Detroit. On Sunday night, he thanked fans there for their support when he was traded to LA for Jared Goff last season. He said his time at Motor City was key to his growth and development.

“It’s amazing. There’s no reason for them to be cheering for me anymore and what they did is just a testament to who they are and what they’re fans,” Stafford said after the game.
“To have support across the country means the world to me. They’ve helped us so many times and that’s why I’m here today.”

He also posted an Instagram story of how he was celebrating with a cigar game post. He dedicated his victory to Detroit.

Stafford completed 26 of 40 283-yard passes with three touchdowns and two interceptions in the win.
In 12 years playing for the Lions, he threw 45,109 yards and 282 touchdowns for 144 interceptions while completing 62.6% of his passes.
