US forces launched an operation against the leader of the Islamic State terrorist group on Tuesday. Before the American military could reach him, he planted a bomb, killing himself and his family.
President Joe Biden described it as “an ultimate act of cowardice”.
He said the US campaign had been planned for months before it was carried out.
The White Helmets Rescue Service, also known as the Syrian Civil Defense, said it had found the bodies of six children and four women at the building targeted in the raid.
