The third body style of the Porsche EV is a performance wagon

On Wednesday, Porsche unveiled a new version of its only electric car. The Porsche Taycan GTS Sport Turismo 2022 marks the debut of a new Sport Turismo body style, as well as the addition of a sporty GTS badging to the Taycan lineup.

Unveiled at the 2021 Los Angeles Auto Show, the Sport Turismo is a wagon that uses a body similar to the Taycan Cross Turismo. Porsche quotes cargo space of the same 15.7 cubic feet with the rear seats raised and 42.8 cubic feet with the rear seats folded as the Cross Turismo.

But while that model has a 0.8-inch higher ground clearance and black fenders, the Sport Turismo has a clean bodywork, with a ride height and suspension tuning to match the Taycan sedan, Porsche said in a press release. So while the Cross Turismo tends to feel more solid – like the electric versions of the Subaru Outback or the Audi Allroad, with a hint of Porsche, of course – the Sport Turismo is more like a regular wagon with emphasis on road drivability.

This also marks the debut of the Taycan GTS models. Available in Sport Turismo or sedan body styles, the GTS treatment includes the engine and frequency converter from the Taycan Turbo. They produce the same 626 pound-feet of torque as the Turbo, but horsepower drops from 670 in the Turbo to 590 in the GTS models. However, that allows a 0-60 mph sprint in 3.5 seconds, according to Porsche.

GTS models use a 93.4 kWh battery pack and 800 volt fast charging that allows up to 270 kW of power. Porsche says it can charge from 5% to 80% in 22 and a half minutes.

According to Porsche, the Taycan GTS model also gets the air suspension and adaptive dampers from the Taycan Turbo, but with different tweaks to increase responsiveness. Model-specific exterior styling and interior design features round out the package.

Pricing for the Taycan GTS Sport Turismo starts at $134,650, while the GTS sedan starts at $132,750. Both models are available to order now with deliveries expected to begin in Q2 2022.

Porsche seems to be following the same practice of constantly rolling out new tweaks and variations as it does with its other models. The automakers previously announced some technological improvements for Taycan 2022, including improvements to charging functionality and thermal management. Last year, Porsche also introduced a Rear-wheel drive Taycan groove below all-wheel drive models.

The Taycan is closely related to the Audi E-Tron GT, although the GT is built at a different facility and, based on a drive first earlier this year, has been tuned to be more like a touring car.
