A Canadian company that has set up an electric vehicle conversion shop is building an electric Hummer that is lighter than the Hummer General motive currently on sale.

North American Electric Vehicles (NAEV) Aim to get the former military Humvee vehicle—cars that were sold as-is Civilian Hummer H1—and equip them with old furniture Tesla powertrain to create what it calls Cyber-Hummer. And they claim that this recovery machine, which they say will begin shipping this summer, weighs 4,500 pounds.

That’s about half the weight of a new one GMC Hummer EV and about 2,000 pounds lighter than the lightest factory-produced H1.

The initial Executive Edition configuration of the NAEV features a four-motor all-wheel-drive powertrain that produces 1,000 horsepower and 1,000 lb-ft of torque, allowing for acceleration from 0-60 mph in 2, 5 seconds. It claims that a 75 kwh battery pack will be capable of traveling up to 300 miles. The company plans to offer both NACS and CCS charging compatibility.

Much of the weight savings comes from eliminating the stock cast-iron suspension components and driveshaft, as well as the transfer case, drivetrain, fuel and exhaust—none of which are requirements with this EV converter, NAEV founder Jeffrey Kotulak told Green Car Reports.

The stock suspension is replaced with what NAEV calls a “hybrid” independent suspension that includes several new internal components. The Cyber-Hummer is still sporty Ground clearance 15 inches However, go off-road and it rides on all-terrain tires mounted to 20-inch alloy wheels.

The NAEV uses old Tesla components, while the Humvees are sourced from surplus auctions, Kotulak said, adding that using these old components and vehicles is a sustainable option solid.

At less than 6,000 pounds, NAEV’s Hummers can also be registered as Class 1 vehicles with an on-road title, Kotulak notes.

However, like older vehicles designed for military purposes, these Hummers are not designed to modern standards for safety, occupant protection, or accident avoidance.

The Executive version starts at $139,900. NAEV also plans to offer the Baja and Commander trims for $98,900 and $119,900, respectively. Construction takes six months after an order is placed, and the goal is to build 328 units per year, Kotulak said.
