The successful Maryland Sire Rock Slide dies at the age of 25


Many of Maryland’s top 10 stallions ice skating passed away on February 8 from illness of old age, according to the Maryland Horse Breeders Association. He is 25 years old.

She won the Bessarabian Shares and Avowal Shares at Honeysuckle and Northern Fling Stakes at Presque Isle Downs and placed into eight graded stakes, including seconds in Presque Isle Downs Masters Stakes (G2), Ontario Matron Stakes (G3), Hendrie Stakes (G3) and Whimsical Stakes (G3), and a third in Madison Staking (G1). Ariana D retired with a 9-7-9 record in 33 starts and earned $707,075.

According to the association, Rock Slide maintained his entire career in Maryland at Shamrock Farm and Maryland Stallion Station. He retired in 2016 and lives the rest of his days in Shamrock.
