Singer Sean Kingston has been arrested in California, hours after a police raid on his Florida mansion in which his mother was also arrested.
In February, Mr Kingston was accused by a company of not paying in full for a giant TV and sound system.
US media reported that he was taken into custody at Fort Irwin, in southern California, for fraud and theft on a warrant in Florida, according to police in the latter state.
In an earlier post on social media, Mr Kingston said his lawyers were “handling everything”.
The previous raid by Florida police targeted a mansion near Fort Lauderdale where the singer – whose legal name is Kisean Anderson – was named as living in court documents from February.
American media – including CBS News, BBC’s partner – reported that the arrested woman was Mr. Kingston’s mother.
Confirming the raid to the BBC, the Broward County Sheriff’s Office said it served an arrest and search warrant at the property.
“As a result of the investigation, an adult female, Janice Turner, February 16, 1963, was taken into custody on multiple counts of fraud and theft.
“This investigation is ongoing and ongoing.”
Police were then seen removing goods from the house. It is unclear whether the arrests are related to the company’s allegations.
American media quoted police as saying that Mr. Kingston’s arrest a few hours later in Southern California went without incident. BBC has reached out to the Broward County Sheriff’s Office for further comment.
Mr Kingston and his mother, known on Instagram as Mama Kingston, were also asked to respond.
Before his arrest, Mr. Kingston appeared to address the developments on his Instagram account.
“I’m fine and so is my mother,” the male singer said before reporting that the arrested woman was his mother.
“My lawyers are working things out as we speak,” he added.
An attorney representing the couple acknowledged that there were charges against them, telling the Associated Press: “We look forward to resolving these matters in court and are confident of a successful resolution.”
In court documents seen by the BBC, Ver Ver Entertainment claims Mr Kingston contacted the company via social media in September 2023 to purchase a “232-inch Colossal TV, complete with a powerful sound system”. “.
The company claims Mr Kingston “incited” the business to install the products for “as small an upfront payment as possible” by making “numerous false statements”, including suggesting that he would create promotional video for the company with Justin Bieber.
After installation, the company said Mr. Kingston failed to make the remaining payments and sued him for breach of contract and fraud.
An attorney representing Ver Ver Entertainment told Miami’s Local 10 that the company is hoping to get it back from the house after the police raid.
