Robin found herself at an Oklahoma shelter as a puppy after being picked up when she got lost. Like many adorable puppies, Robin soon found a home. But just six months later, he was found wandering the streets of Oklahoma like a stray again..
One night, while trying to jump over the wall of his crib, Robin had an unfortunate accident. Somehow, he got his foot stuck in the top of the crib door. He was found the next morning, exhausted, covered in blood, with his front leg stuck to the wall of the crib. The accident left Robin’s leg severely broken, and due to lack of resources, Robin endured the pain of her broken leg without medical attention for two weeks.
The shelter staff knew Robin was suffering. With few options, they decided to contact a local rescue team, Friends with Four Paws, to help. Rescuers wasted no time getting Robin in and making sure to take care of his broken leg as soon as possible.
Robin’s front leg was broken near a joint that could not be pinned, and as a result, the poor dog took several months to recover. His recovery plan needs a lot of attention from his new rescue friends. He requires weekly splint changes, laser therapy, and lots of crib rest to save his leg. It was a tall order, but Friends with Four Paws was determined to fight for Robin.
After weeks of rigorous medical care and TLC, Robin’s bandages were removed – but that wasn’t the end of his bad luck. A few weeks later, a bone broke from the same leg he had spent so much time trying to heal. However, Friends with Four Paws didn’t give up on him.
During his recovery, Robin was able to comfortably stay in the home of a caring foster carer. His stay is made even more cozy with the help of the Greater Good Charities COMMERCIAL PROGRAM, which provides anti-bullying sticks, dental food, toys and licking mats to help him out. He entertains while he recovers. The GOODS program also helped provide food and treats for Robin and other pets under the care of Friends with Four Paws.
Food, toys and treats may not seem like a big deal, but for a rescuer who refuses to turn down difficult cases like Robin’s, these items can be a godsend. Friends of the Four Paws know that getting an active but broken leg will take a toll on their resources. And when his leg was broken again, they could continue to care for him until he fully recovered.
“One of the things we do to try to help the community is take on medical cases that might not have much of a chance of survival without first aid. Many of the cases we receive can result in high medical bills. Not having to spend so much money on supplies provided through the GOODS Program, allows us to continue to fund medical bills. It really allows us to help more people when needed!”
