On Sunday, Hyundai previewed a mid-cycle refresh direction for the Sonata midsize sedan — and Sonata Hybrid — for the 2024 model year, with additional details to be revealed on March 30.

The key to making the 2024 Sonata Hybrid look fresh from the outside seems to be the strikingly thin horizontal strip of lights at the front—and a step up from the trapezoidal grille design that has distinguished the Sonata for generations. Along with that is the horizontal emphasis is extended to the lighting system at the rear.
On the side of the car, the built-in air vents are an odd design detail, but it fits as a hint at opening up the line that extends to the rear of the car.
From an interface standpoint, the most notable change is Hyundai’s decision to move the gear lever behind the steering wheel—to create more space in the center console area. Enabled by this, the dashboard features a new palm rest for the driver, extended armrests, as well as a large cup and tray holders. But it’s worth noting that Hyundai hasn’t removed a bunch of hard buttons for the essentials — or the volume knob.
The Sonata takes a new twist on the brand’s dual 12.3-inch displays, with a panoramic curved look and below the screen space, the panel emphasizes the horizontal.

Hyundai also notes that the cabin has been upgraded with new color combinations to emphasize the sporty and premium aspects of the Sonata at the same time.
Since this generation of Sonata Hybrid debuted, the competition hasn’t changed much. The main competitors still include Toyota Camry hybridnew though Honda Accord Hybrid 2023 is a potential troublemaker. The 2023 Sonata Hybrid earns a combined 47 mpg EPA — and we’ve observed that highway efficiency is a strong point.
