In the past, that has included race-specific, limited-edition merchandise sales (my personal favorite is the Western-themed collection that appears in US Grand Prix 2022). That also means things like Formula Direction 1 goods and focus on F1-themed podcasts patch. Now, it means the Rare Breed BX collaboration. “To create this F1/hockey jersey, I took a lot of inspiration from vintage racing jackets and old-fashioned patch ads, and the striped cuffs are modeled after the classics. my dad’s old college hoodie,” says designer Girmann. “I love to fiddle with typography, so I based a lot of patches on vintage car ads. We also really wanted to add a fun Easter egg specific to Montreal, so the font on the front of the jersey was customized to match the old Montreal Expos logo. I really hope that the more people look at these jerseys, the more interesting details they will notice and realize how much care and attention has been given to them.”

Lizotte and Sievers doubled down on that exclusivity: “For those who have never seen Formula 1 before, they won’t see the meaning of the hats. But for fans of the sport, it will be an instant conversation starter. That’s what we want to do with these shirts. At first glance, these are hockey jerseys with fun patches and interesting designs. But for F1 fans, they will know the meaning behind every aspect and have a super unique, exciting F1 offering like never before.”

Rare Breed BX, a luxury sportswear brand specializing in customizable jerseys, seemed like the perfect choice for this year’s Montreal Grand Prix merchandise sale.
