Finding a lost dog is difficult. After all, a running dog can create a lot of distance when walking. Many lost dogs are also too scared to let humans help. But with the Chihuahua Mixed Taco, that’s not the case at all.
When Taco ran away, he wasn’t far from home. However, it still took his mother nearly two weeks to find him. That’s because along the way, a group of elderly women decided hold him hostage, refused to return him to his loving family. This made his mother work even harder to bring him home.
Taco runs for free
Like most dogs, Taco likes to run around after bathing. So, after giving her rescue dog a soothing spa day, Shawna Wallace let her little pup run out and do her business. Unfortunately, Taco is a bit curious. When Wallace turned his back, Taco jostled under the fence. Since he was still drying, he didn’t wear his collar.
“When I realized he was missing, I immediately posted about it on Facebook,” Wallace said. “When he didn’t come back that night, I started hanging flyers and taping a poster to my truck.”
Right after Wallace’s search began, she received an unusual phone call. One woman told her she knew where Taco was, and she texted Wallace to take a picture of the dog. Wallace determined that the dog in the photo wasn’t Taco, but this isn’t the last time she’s heard from the woman.
Later, Wallace’s boyfriend thinks he’s spotted Taco at someone’s house. When they knocked on the door, the woman who answered said she didn’t have a Taco. But then she admitted that she was the one who called Wallace. Something is wrong.
An endless battle
Wallace continued to confer with several elderly women who appeared to be working together. One woman called to ask questions about Taco but then told Wallace that Taco was in a better home now before hanging up. Wallace suspects that the call was intended to discourage her from searching, but it only made her work harder to find Taco.
So Wallace kept posting on Facebook while her boyfriend found records of the phone calls they received. They quickly learned the names, addresses, and phone numbers of everyone involved. Curiously, one of the phone numbers found from a random man was tagged in a comment on Wallace’s Facebook post. It’s all starting to feel too strange to be real.
At that point, Wallace was sure the first woman had Taco or at least knew where he was. Finally, she drives to the mansion to confront the woman again. They got into a big argument and the woman threatened to call the police. Wallace has confronted these women several times since then, but she has always come away empty-handed.
While Wallace considered contacting the police, she assumed her case would be low priority. So she kept thinking about how to rescue Taco herself.
Tacos go home
The search for Taco took an interesting turn when an elderly woman brought a mix of Chihuahuas Ross . County Humane Society. They scanned Taco for a microchip, but he didn’t have one. As part of the shelter’s process, they needed the woman’s information to get Taco in. But of course, the woman refused and stormed out of there.
Just a few minutes later, another woman walked in with the same dog. She told them when and where she found the dog, but it was different from the woman’s story before. When shelter staff asked the woman for information, she cried and left the dog.
From there, shelter workers searched online to see if they could find any lost dog posts for Taco. Sure enough, they saw Wallace’s post after just a few minutes of searching. They called her, and she was there to pick him up in ten minutes.
The encounters are extremely strange and unusual, but Wallace is only happy when his furry friend returns home. Since the police were not involved, no charges have been filed. But this incident reminds dog parents to microchip their dog and return to social media if their dog is lost.
