The man is said to have been shot dead on the JSU campus


One person was found dead at Jackson State University (JSU), the Hinds County coroner was seen loading a body into her SUV from the trunk of a car located in the campus parking lot, reportedly belonging to a young male was shot dead, the coroner later revealed.

WLBT Correspondent CJ LeMaster tweeted a photo of the scene as it unfolded Friday afternoon, noting that “we don’t know the cause/method of death at this time”.

The image shows a JSU parking area fenced off with yellow police tape, with the coroner’s truck clearly visible.

A parent of a JSU student tweeted also about the incident, saying that “her daughter just called (her) and said they found a boy’s body in the trunk of another boy’s car on her college campus.” .”

The parent went on to say that a student was arrested, but there was no confirmation of that as of Friday afternoon. The victim has also not been identified and it is unclear if the victim was a student at JSU.

Meanwhile, the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation and Jackson State University Campus Enforcement are investigating the death as a campus homicide.

Coroner confirms victim was male, as JSU officials emailed students notice of investigation

Hinds County Coroner Sharon Grisham Stewart confirmed the victim was a male, according to WLBT.

School police were called to the scene around 8:30 a.m., in a parking lot between Dixon Hall and Campbell College Suites

School police sent a warning email to the students Friday morning, saying, “There is an ongoing investigation on campus and officials are on the scene at the Tiger World parking lot. . There are no active threats and the campus remains open.”

The JSU president arrived at the scene early Friday morning to speak with campus police, no further details available.

JSU President Thomas K. Hudson was also at the scene early Friday to speak to police on campus, the newspaper reported.

There are no further details on what happened at this time.
