The look of light in Estonia!

A workshop to remember! What a wonderful time in Estonia recently, with a great group of photos. Together we’ve delved into all manner of portraiture. Lights are made, stories are told! Workshop organized and produced by Janne and Clarika, the intrepid executive duo kursille.com, a fixture in the fields of teaching and photography in the Baltic region. We collaborated on an intimate, hands-on lighting workshop called The interface of light.

Great work by our talented photographers Gerhard, Lola, Otto, Tarja, and Melissa, who form an excellent, visually harmonious team. A sample of their collective work is in the banner above.

And can’t function without Pasi! As a Finnish photographer, Pasi does lovely work and is a non-stop energy machine all week long, helping everyone in the studio, myself included.

Production is key to the success of any workshop, Janne and Clarika have arranged an amazing array of venues and of course our amazing talent, patience and enthusiasm! thanks go out Iris, Nitta, Julia, and Livo, who are great to work with. And we had the unique opportunity to work in a beautiful and historic city Castle Kuressaare – thanks to all the staff. We had an explosion in Angla Windmill Park and a great dinner – bonus. And thanks to the great name Restaurant Ku Kuuwhich not only fueled us with great food throughout the week but also became a great spot for portrait photography.

Thank you very much file, who supported the workshop with incredible equipment. We worked with series A (lots of!) and series B lights to good effect. Workshop groups used almost everything we had access to, from “Clic” style softboxes to larger light profilers. Magnetic gel and mesh for units A10, A2 have been used non-stop. Profoto has brought some incredibly easy-to-use lighting technologies to the world of photography over the past few years and has opened the door to sophisticated lighting results with great mobile devices. Tips of the hat to them.

From the woods to the beach, we worked nonstop, shooting in the afternoon, critiquing in the morning. We just have a crack into a sunset! In the north, at this time of year, the sun doesn’t set until about 10:30pm! But we made the most of it.

To me, our small workshop is a great example of the photo community at large. Outstanding photographers spend a week honing their skills and finding the next level in their work. After all, this remains a lifelong passion and quest for excellence.

Estonia… did not disappoint. Great country, welcome everyone. A great week.
