The London Lampshade Story! « Joe McNally Photography

At first, I didn’t tell anyone, especially Annie, but when I saw the spy photos of this site in south London, I knew I wanted to put the lampshade on. by Amber Tutton the head.

As for the wardrobe direction, of course I was more specific. With the pastel walls, I said I wanted her to look like a rice paper. I believe I said something like, “You know, in terms of color, think of a gelato scoop with legs and heels.” Annie and Lynn gave me a weird, time-honored head tilt, and with that kind of incredibly precise direction, I went on with style.

An absolutely fun day of filming took place. UK photographer Jake Newell He’s talented and extremely knowledgeable, and he introduced me to– reusable zip ties! Never knew about those things. Awesome, and that’s what he used to hang two Profoto C1 Plus unit inside the lampshade. Amber, despite wearing this fancy hat, is still her usual super pose machine.

To me, a shot like this only provides more proof of the luxury technology we have at our fingertips. I needed the lampshade to glow (thanks C1 Plus devices) but the overall lighting around Amber was dim and dim. We used a combination of light profilers, from one Profoto has a 4′ Octa grid, come big oh deep oh in a shoot-thru style. Plus a bounce. the lamp is Unit Profoto A2 and B10X Plus. For the banner photo, most of the flash light is outside the lawn.

The great thing is, operate Profoto Connect Pro in Air Control 2 mode, I know exactly my wattage levels on different lights at a glance. It’s super useful at the camera. The aerial remote is great, but Connect Pro actually connects the dots on the Profoto system. And they have upgraded the battery life on these. I use maha powerex triple A is rechargeable and you can shoot all day without changing.

Wide glass on me Nikon Z9. Again, photo technology. The Z 9 has a depth of detail (many pixels) and the glass is so sharp, I was able to actually dial in the dark, in front of the camera, to the position that I felt needed, relative to my light. lamp . The beautiful on-camera LCD screen, flashing highlights, and histogram indicators all come into play.

Thank you Amber for her patience in the face of all this bullshit. And to Sabrina Nicholson beauty, for her amazing hair and makeup artistry, and is always a pleasure to work with. Jake Newell was brilliant on set, and of course, Sacred and Annie at our studio. Annie was on set and shot all of BTS. And thanks to Profoto for supporting such fascinating ideas as above!

And ending with the below, so Amber knows, I never get bored taking pictures of her face! 🙂 We’ve been working together for years, and when I hit her head with the lampshade, she was like….” So Joe, this has come to an end. Are you tired of taking pictures of my face? And my answer, of course, is a definite “no” to that!
