Mercedes-Benz teased an updated version of its biggest SUV on Twitter before the official reveal on April 4.
A single shaded teaser image depicting the update Mercedes GLSrevealed its updated headlights but little else.
It’s hard to pinpoint any changes to the exterior, but previous spy shots suggest the front bumper will also get an updated design, along with new taillight graphics.
Mercedes-Benz says there will be “new software and equipment changes”.
The current GLS features a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster as well as a 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system running the MBUX operating system.
The Related GLE stuck with these monitors with its mid-life update, even though it runs the latest generation of the MBUX system.
Other changes made to the GLE, which we can expect to see reflected on the GLS, include new alloy wheels, a touchscreen steering wheel and new paint options.
There are now Mercedes-AMG and Mercedes-Maybach versions of the GLS, which are expected to be updated as well. These versions may be revealed at a later date.
The current Mercedes-Benz GLS-Class is offered in Australia with two 3.0-litre, turbocharged, six-cylinder powertrain options.
The petrol GLS450 delivers 270kW of power with 500Nm of torque while the GLS400d diesel makes 243kW and 700Nm.
Mercedes-AMG has the GLS63 4Matic+, using a 450kW/850Nm twin-turbo 4.0-litre V8 petrol engine.
Mercedes-Maybach also offers a GLS variant with a 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 under the name GLS 600, but its output is lower than that of the AMG at 410kW and 730Nm.
All models have a 48V mild-hybrid system, a nine-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive.
The third generation GLS Class has been on sale in Australia since 2019.
It was the second best-selling car in its segment last year, just behind BMW X7. A total of 840 X7s were sold compared to 803 GLSs.
